Bringing together concrete and metaphorical images, Sofía Quirno´s work proposes an experience of everyday associations. Influenced by the Argentine tradition of Feminism, Surrealism, and Psychoanalysis, Quirno sets to play with existing schemas using humor to evidence vulnerability. Her paintings and installations reinterpret landscapes of life to enhance the perception of the strange and often funny experience that it is to be in the world. Using collage as her underlying processes, she experiments with montage, overlapping images and perspectives to capture the randomness of thoughts and the multiple relationships between meanings and forms. Quirno was born in 1978, Buenos Aires, Argentina. She lives and works in New York. She graduated from Torcuato Di Tella University and has a degree in International Studies (2002). She is also a graduate of a Masters in Visual Arts from Parsons The New School (2015). She was part of the Paint School fellowship, Shandaken Projects (2020) and the Viewing Program 20/21 at The Drawing Center in New York. She received the Deans Merit Scholarship Award (2013) and Student Senate Grant (2015) at Parsons The New School of Design and the Sterling Clark Scholarship as artist-in-residence at Vermont Studio Center (in 2012). Quirno was also an artist-in-residence at Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts (2013) and Triangle Arts Workshop (2010). Elena Loson’s work explores the impossibility of returning to the starting point through drawing. Using powdered graphite and paper, the trade is a way of exploring the support, a way of thinking, tracing and inhabiting the space in which the remains of the procedure make it possible to open up to another journey: that of the time of drawing on the surface in which it moves and exists. Loson was born in Rosario, Argentina, in 1980. She has a degree in Fine Arts from the Universidad de Palermo (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and a Master in Art from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. She earned a Bachelor of Art degree in Philosophy from the Universidad de Buenos Aires, and the title of National Teacher at Prilidiano Pueyrredón School of Fine Arts (Buenos Aires, Argentina). Pursuant to exhaustive research driven by love and knowledge of film by classic authors like Alfred Hitchcock, David Lynch and Film Noir period, Martín Sichetti (b. 1973, Buenos Aires) selects stills that he later reworks in drawings, videos and performances triggered by film narrative devices. As a self-taught artist, his relationship with drawing goes back to childhood; a period in which he also reaffirms his passion for films. His passion for films is also reflected on Darling Pet Monkey (2011), a video he produced based on a scene from Billy Wilder’s classic film noir, Sunset Boulevard (1950). His first performances were under the spell of Marilyn Monroe. Simultaneously in 2008, he founded marsdepartment, a studio focused on hi-end retouching he has been directing ever since. As a young teenager, he learned the technique of fashion sketching and attended to costume design workshops at the Teatro Colón and the Teatro San Martín. He has also designed costumes for plays and contemporary dance shows. He attended workshops by Norma Cirigliano; Peter Richter; Ezequiel García; Fabiana Barreda; Valeria Iglesias; Catalina Schliebener; Gilda Picabea; Silvia Gurfein; María Onetto; Inés Estévez; among others.
